Race organizers look forward to welcoming 40,000 runners back to Broad Street this spring
Registration for the 2023 Independence Blue Cross Broad Street Run lottery opened today at 12:01 a.m., announced Philadelphia Parks & Recreation. Individuals who want to run the nation’s largest 10-mile race in person have until 11:59 p.m. on February 15 to register for the lottery.
“There’s nothing like the magic of Broad Street. It’s where Philadelphians gather to celebrate special moments, like the Phillies winning the National League pennant or the Eagles’ recent NFC Championship,” said Gregory E. Deavens, president and CEO of Independence Blue Cross. “All runners should enter the lottery for this year’s Independence Blue Cross Broad Street Run. The energy of this race can’t be beat. It is something every runner should experience at least once!”
This year, race organizers aim to welcome back 40,000 runners, whether in the in-person race or the virtual run. After three years of pandemic conditions, the 2023 Independence Blue Cross Broad Street Run will not have any health restrictions.
“We are committed to making the 2023 Independence Blue Cross Broad Street Run safe and fun for 40,000 runners,” said Kathryn Ott Lovell, Commissioner of Philadelphia Parks & Recreation. “Participants can run assured that their well-being is our number one priority.”
Runners will be notified of their lottery status the week of February 19. Those who are not selected in the lottery have the opportunity to run as part of a charity team or register for the virtual race option.
The 2023 Independence Blue Cross Broad Street Run will be held on April 30 with a start time of 8 a.m. The race’s traditional date of the First Sunday in May was moved forward by a week this year only due to a conflict with another large sporting event in Philadelphia that day.
