Save the Date: Philadelphia Parks & Recreation announces date of 2023 Independence Blue Cross Broad Street Run

The nation’s largest 10-mile road race will held on April 30 and follow traditional race protocols

PHILADELPHIA – Philadelphia Parks & Recreation Commissioner Kathryn Ott Lovell announced today that the 2023 Independence Blue Cross Broad Street Run* will be held on Sunday, April 30, with an 8 a.m. start.

The nation’s largest 10-mile road race traditionally occurs on the first Sunday in May. The event will take place one week earlier, on Sunday, April 30, for this year only to avoid conflicting with another large sporting event in Philadelphia. After three years of race day restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2023 Independence Blue Cross Broad Street Run is returning to traditional race protocols. Kids’ events and post-race activities will be held, and spectators are welcome to cheer on runners along the course.

“I’m so excited to welcome runners, volunteers, and spectators back to Broad Street,” said Kathryn Ott Lovell. “Their energy really enlivens Philadelphia on race day; it’s so exhilarating. I can’t wait to see all the funny signs the crowds bring to encourage their loved ones to keep going to the finish line.”

“We are proud to be the lead sponsor of the Independence Blue Cross Broad Street Run for the 27th consecutive year. Our support for this race aligns perfectly with our focus on community well-being and our 85-year commitment to this region,” said Gregory E. Deavens, president and CEO of Independence Blue Cross. “We’re looking forward to a successful and safe Run and seeing cheering crowds line Broad Street once again.”
