Runner Stories

If you have a story to tell on why you are participating in the Blue Cross Broad Street Run, we would like to know about it. - Please send an e-mail to bsrhelp@aim.com

Where do we park?

Due to the limited amount of parking in the start area, we recommend that all runners park their cars for free near the finish area (Broad & Pattison) and take the SEPTA Broad Street Line to the start.

Directions to the starting area?

The Central High School Athletic Field is located at Broad Street and Somerville Avenue located approximately 1 mile North of the Route 1 and the North Broad Street Interchange. Board the Broad Street Line at any subway stop to get to the start. Many trains are crowded and may not stop at some locations going north (please allow enough time to get to the start).

Is there transportation back to start area when the race is completed?

There are no shuttles back to the start area. However, public transportation is available on the SEPTA Broad Street Line Subway. One way fare is two dollars $2.00

For public transportation information contact Septa at (215) 580-7800.

SUBWAY TRAINS FROM BROAD AND PATTISON WILL BEGIN TO RUN AT 5:30 A.M.  EXPRESS TRAINS WILL RUN CONTINUOUSLY AS SOON AS THEY BECOME FULL.  CENTER CITY BOARDING SHOULD BE DONE AT THE WALNUT/LOCUST STOP.

How much time should I allow myself to get to the start from the subway?

It is in your best interest to board a train before 6:30 a.m. to allow for any delays. It takes approximately thirty-five (35) minutes for local subway trains to reach the SEPTA Broad and Olney Transportation Center, which is a few blocks above the start. However, express trains when operating take about 20 minutes.

Where will the gear check be located?

START LINE AREA: Gear Check Bus locations are being finalized.  Check back for updated information.

FINISH AREA: On the Marine Parade Grounds at the Philadelphia Navy Yard. Gear check will be provided for all runners who supply their own gym bags that are properly marked with the official race tag that is provided with your bib number.

Gear buses will be located at the south end of the Marine Parade Grounds directly across Constitution Avenue from the Runner Refrehsment tent.

If I am unable to attend the expo, how can I obtain my race packet?

If you cannot attend the Expo, a person you designate with proof of THEIR identification may pick up your packet for you. It would be helpful to give them your confirmation number to expedite the process of pick up.(SEE Below)

No race numbers or "SAI Timing Devices" will be mailed. (No Exceptions).

Typical proof of identification would be one of the following:

A letter signed by the runner authorizing the person picking up permission to do so. The pick up person should bring their photo identification. The signature on the letter should match the signature on the mailed in race application.

The runner's confirmation post card or a photocopy of the card.

A printout of the on line confirmation if the runner registered online.

SPECIAL OFFER: FOR RUNNERS WHO CANNOT ATTEND THE EXPO

For an additional $20.00, runners will be permitted to pick up their race bib number and Chronotrack Timing Device on Race Day at the starting area on Sunday, May 2nd beginning at 6:00 a.m. Only runners who register on line before April 25th at 11:59 pm EST or via mail with a postmark prior to and including March 31st will be permitted to pick up on race day. This pick up area will shut down promptly one-half hour prior to the start of the race.

Race day pick up will be at the Central High School Athletic Field located at Broad and Somerville. A special instruction letter and Free ride to the start credentials will be put in the mail no later than April 26th.

If your plans change, your packet will be available for pickup at the expo, however, the $20.00 charge will not be refunded.
