THE START

Visit the Cental High School Athletic Field, located at Broad Street and Somerville Avenue for the pre-race stretch led by Donna Storm.  The warm up will begin at 7:45 a.m.

Please stay off the surrounding streets until instructed by race officials to proceed to the start corrals.

The Central High School Athletic Field is located at Broad Street and Somerville Avenue located approximately 1 mile north of Route 1 and the North Broad Street Interchange.

Directions for the Start

Due to the limited amount of parking in the start area, we recommend that runners park their cars for free near the finish area (at the Stadium Complex at Broad & Pattison) and take the Broad Street Line to the start.

To get to the starting line, ride SEPTA for free. ALL RUNNERS CAN RIDE SEPTA'S BROAD STREET SUBWAY LINE FOR FREE by displaying your official race number to the cashier at any Broad Street Line stop. You must be wearing the number on the front of your shirt. Shuttle buses will return you from the finish area back to the parking areas.

It takes approximately 35 minutes to reach the SEPTA Broad & Olney Transportation Center, which is a few blocks above the start. SEPTA will also be providing express trains on the morning of the race.

For public transportation information contact Septa at (215) 580-7800.

Start Area Information

Gear Check

Please read the following information carefully to avoid confusion at the start area. ALL GEAR MUST BE CHECKED ONTO THE BUSES BY 8:00 A.M SO THEY CAN DEPART FOR THE NAVY YARD.

In 2012, buses will NOT be loaded by BIB NUMBER. All buses will have 500 Security Wristbands for each bus. When you arrive you will be handed two matching wristbands and a sticker. You are instructed to place one wristband onto your gear bag and hand it to one of the volunteers for placement on the bus. Please make note of the bus number that you placed your gear. The second wristband is yours to hold onto along with the sticker that matches. The Wristband and sticker will have your Bus Number and your individual bag number printed on it to help you remember what bus you placed your gear.

All runners should put some form of identification inside their bag in case we need to ship the bag back to you after the race. Make sure that it includes your Name, address, phone number so we can contact you.

All gear check buses will be located at various locations around the start area such as Olney Avenue, Old York Road, and  Somerville Avenue . No buses will be on Broad Street again this year to allow more room for the corrals to be set up.  Runners are asked to check their gear early so that the buses can leave on time.  When the first buses are loaded they will leave for the Navy Yard.  New buses will be opened after the first buses are filled.  Please move quickly away from the buses after you load your gear to allow more room for the next group of runners.. PLEASE do this in an orderly fashion to help our two hundred volunteers do their job.  This is a big task and we request that you have patience with this new system.

Gear check pick up at the Navy Yard will be located at the south end of the Marine Parade Grounds in the parking lot directly across Constitution Avenue.

We urge to check your gear in an easily identified type of bag that is unique to you similar to what you would do at an airport. Garments without a bag may not be accepted and are not guaranteed to be returned if not in a bag. Suitcases will not be accepted.

There will be more than 250 portable toilets at the start.  Please allow yourself enough time to use the facilities prior to the start of the race.  Water will be available at the start area at various locations. Look for the Blue Water Flags. Please hydrate prior to the start of the race.

Please show consideration for residents and their property. KEEP OFF the lawns, steps and porches of residents. Inform spectators that they must follow these instructions also.

The Finish Line Area

NO pets or alcoholic beverages are permitted in the Philadelphia Navy Yard.

This year's race will finish inside the Philadelphia Navy Yard, at the southern end of Broad Street. All runners will pass the stadium complex and FDR Park, proceed under I-95 and enter through the main gate of the Philadelphia Navy Yard.

The race will conclude approximately ¼ mile INSIDE the main gate, on Broad Street, along side the Marine Parade Grounds, just past the row of Navy ships anchored on the west side of the street.

Shuttle buses will be provided to and from the parking areas to the Philadelphia Navy Yard. Keep an eye out for the yellow school buses and they will save you the walk to and from the parking areas.

Color Coded Meeting Places

All runners should plan to meet up with family and friends at the Lost Runners Information Tent in the center of the Marine Parade grounds. No announcements about missing people will be made from the awards stage. If someone is missing, go to the nearest information booth for instructions.

Refreshments

Please help yourself to refreshments at the finish area. Please be aware that there is enough for each runner to get ONE REFRESHMENT PACKET. Back of the pack runners need refreshments, too. Please be courteous to your fellow runners and limit your consumption to ONE refreshment bag.

Note: The runners refreshment areas will be blocked off from spectators and the general public. Please take your refreshments before you leave this area. We want an orderly flow from the Chip collection through the refreshment area and into the open space. YOU MUST HAVE YOUR RACE NUMBER TEAR-OFF TO PICK UP YOUR REFRESHMENT PACKET. Once you have left the refreshment area, please do not go back. Runners are asked to keep moving through this area.

Additional water is available at the water tanks around the parade grounds

Clean-up

We would like the cooperation of all runners in helping to keep the Navy Base clean. Please put all trash, cups, etc. in the proper receptacles.

Reminder: No pets or alcoholic beverages are permitted on the grounds of the Philadelphia Navy Yard!
