In 2010 the Blue Cross Broad Street Run will be capping the number of participants at 30,000 runners.
Start Corrals
In 2010 we will be utilizing a corral system and the race will have a wave start. This is being instituted to ensure a smooth start of the race.
Your race number and corral assignment will be forwarded to you via e-mail in mid-April. Your corral assignment will be based upon your anticipated finish time
GEAR CHECK - NEW PROCEDURE IN 2010
In 2010, buses will NOT be loaded by BIB NUMBER. All buses will have 500 Security Wristbands for each bus. When you arrive you will be handed two matching wristbands and a sticker. You are instructed to place one wristband onto your gear bag and hand it to one of the volunteers for placement on the bus. Please make note of the bus number that you placed your gear. The second wristband is yours to hold onto along with the sticker that matches. The Wristband and sticker will have your Bus Number and your individual bag number printed on it to help you remember what bus you placed your gear.
All runners should put some form of identification inside their bag in case we need to ship the bag back to you after the race. Make sure that it includes your Name, address, phone number so we can contact you.
All gear check buses will be located on Somerville Avenue along side the Central High School Athletic field. No buses will be on Broad Street this year to allow more room for the corrals to be set up. Runners are asked to check their gear early so that the buses can leave on time.
Buses will be loaded from the front of the line starting at Ogontz Avenue. When the first buses are loaded they will leave for the Navy Yard. New buses will be opened after the first buses are filled. Please move down the street in an orderly fashion to help our two hundred volunteers do their job. This is a big task and we request that you have patience with this new system.
Gear check pick up at the Navy Yard will be located at the south end of the Marine Parade Grounds in the parking lot directly across Constitution Avenue.
We urge to check your gear in an easily identified type of bag that is unique to you similar to what you would do at an airport. Garments without a bag may not be accepted and are not guaranteed to be returned if not in a bag. Suitcases will not be accepted.
CHRONOTRACK SYSTEMS TIMING DEVICE
In 2010, we will be utilizing the ChronoTrack B-Tag timing system, a single use bib tag. The timing device is imbedded in the race bib.

Clothes-Pin | Clothes for People In Need
Greetings 2010 Blue Cross Broad Street Runners!
We at Clothes-Pin wanted to take a moment to introduce ourselves, explain the work we do and to highlight the wonderful contribution marathon runners have made to Philadelphia neediest, since 2007.
Clothes-Pin is a Center City Philadelphia-based organization, in the process of becoming a non-for-profit corporation. Starting with one bag of discarded clothing at the 2007 Philadelphia Marathon, runners have contributed over 10,000 articles of clothing to local homeless shelters. 2010 will be our first year working with the Blue Cross Broad Street Run.
Our project is really quite simple: All “warm-up” clothing that is discarded by runners at the starting corrals are collected by a group of volunteers, bagged and taken to “Our Brother’s Place”. The coats, scarves, mittens, hats, etc. are then sorted, washed and distributed to men’s and women’s shelters, throughout the City of Philadelphia. This run, we have decided to contribute 50% of the clothing to the Haiti Relief Effort. The “Gear Check Program” is still available as always.
Below please find a link to the Philadelphia Inquirer article by Chris Hepp, this past November, which highlighted our efforts. We at Clothes-Pin want to thank you for your participation and wish you the best of luck in the 2010 Blue Cross Broad Street Run!

The American Cancer Society launches a Charity Runner Program.
If you have a large group (co-workers, families, friends, etc) that wishes to raise funds for this great cause, you should join this program.
Sign up at www.acdetermiNation.org/broadstreetrun to donate and send e-mails to family, friends and co-workers for a donation. Signing up to raise funds does not enter you in the 2010 Blue Cross Broad Street Run.
All individuals participating in the Blue Cross Broad Street Run must register to participate in the race by filling out a race application, that you must obtain from the American Cancer Society's Philadelphia office.
Please Note: The American Cancer Society benefits strictly through your pledges and donations.
Utilization of the full width of Broad Street from the Start to Oregon Avenue
This year, we will be utilizing both the north and southbound lanes of Broad Street to Oregon Avenue. At Oregon Avenue, all runners will be directed into the southbound lanes.
Buy a Brick and Help Taras Shevchenko Park
As part of the greening efforts of the race, we are going to encourage the help of the runners to support the capital campaign to renovate Taras Shevchenko Park, a 2.5-acre neighborhood park located at the starting line of the Blue Cross Broad St. Run.
For more information, visit the Commemorative Brick page.
