Directions to the starting area? The Central High School Athletic Field is located at Broad Street and Somerville Avenue located approximately 1 mile North of the Route 1 and the North Broad Street Interchange. Board the Broad Street Line at any subway stop to get to the start. Many trains are crowded and may not stop at some locations going north (please allow enough time to get to the start). Is there transportation back to start area when the race is completed? There are no shuttles back to the start area. However, public transportation is available on the SEPTA Broad Street Line Subway. One way fare is two dollars $2.00
SUBWAY TRAINS FROM BROAD AND PATTISON WILL BEGIN TO RUN AT 5:30 A.M. EXPRESS TRAINS WILL RUN CONTINUOUSLY AS SOON AS THEY BECOME FULL. CENTER CITY BOARDING SHOULD BE DONE AT THE WALNUT/LOCUST STOP.
It is in your best interest to board a train before 6:30 a.m. to allow for any delays. It takes approximately thirty-five (35) minutes for local subway trains to reach the SEPTA Broad and Olney Transportation Center, which is a few blocks above the start. However, express trains when operating take about 20 minutes. Where will the gear check be located?
In 2011, buses will NOT be loaded by BIB NUMBER. All buses will have 500 Security Wristbands for each bus. When you arrive you will be handed two matching wristbands and a sticker. You are instructed to place one wristband onto your gear bag and hand it to one of the volunteers for placement on the bus. Please make note of the bus number that you placed your gear. The second wristband is yours to hold onto along with the sticker that matches. The Wristband and sticker will have your Bus Number and your individual bag number printed on it to help you remember what bus you placed your gear. All runners should put some form of identification inside their bag in case we need to ship the bag back to you after the race. Make sure that it includes your Name, address, phone number so we can contact you. Gear check buses will be located at various locations around the start area such as Olney Avenue, Old York Road and Somerville Avenue. No buses will be on Broad Street this year to allow more room for the corrals to be set up. Runners are asked to check their gear early so that the buses can leave on time. When the first buses are loaded, they will depart for the Navy Yard. New buses will be opened up after the first buses are filled. Please move quickly away from the buses to alllow more room for the next group of runners. Please move down the street in an orderly fashion to help our two hundred volunteers do their job. This is a big task and we request that you have patience with this new system. Gear check pick up at the Navy Yard will be located at the south end of the Marine Parade Grounds in the parking lot directly across Constitution Avenue. We urge to check your gear in an easily identified type of bag that is unique to you similar to what you would do at an airport. Garments without a bag may not be accepted and are not guaranteed to be returned if not in a bag. Suitcases will not be accepted. If I am unable to attend the expo, how can I obtain my race packet?
